BIO (SHORT)

Kashoo is a live remix outfit that blends elements of funk, hip hop and jazz with bass-heavy, glitchy hooks and thick electronic grooves. Having honed their skills through countless performances, including the Shambhala Music Festival and Starbelly Jam, their live shows turn into busy affair of live sequencing, drumming and remixing, as they rock their arsenal of midi machines, an upright bass, an electronic drumkit and, ultimately, the dancefloor. As seasoned producers, Kashoo have remixed works by Delhi 2 Dublin and Adham Shaikh and released their first full-length self-titled album on Ropeadope Records.

BIO (LONG)

Ableton, effect pedals, keyboards, electronic drumkit, midi controllers and an upright bass are the tools that bandmates Ness and Jakob use these days to create real, original, hybrid electronic music. Building from a rich background in traditional music to today’s bass culture and glitch-hop, the two maestros work beats, samples and basslines like two old timey banjo players jammin’ on the porch.   Ness holds down the beats and melodies working with Ableton Live and an array of keyboards and controllers, while Jacob pummels the bins with his revolving kit of bass tools, from stand-up to midi controller. The feel is truly organic, while the sound is unmistakably electronic.

In the studio, Kashoo’s songwriting process is one of deconstruction: working backwards from the live jam, songs are carved out of the soundscape and then meticulously culled and combed through to produce thoughtful and elegant arrangments.  Collaborating with other artists, including Gisto (Wassabi Collective) and Rich Rabnett (Rabnett 5) is high on their priority list, as they strive to maintain an air of uniqeness with each and every song.  With tracks already released on remixes for Delhi 2 Dublin’s Planet Electrified and Adham Shaikh’s Refractions Vol 1, Kashoo released their own full-length on Ropeadope Records.

Live performance is where its at for this band, and Kashoo has no problems keeping the floor grooving: from packed shows at the Spirit Bar and The Royal in Nelson, playing with Adham Shaikh and Drive If You Must, to tearing it up at the legendary Fandango Farms in the Okanagan to the infamous Beach Stage at Shambahla Music Festival, Kashoo are quickly becoming veterans of the live music scene in BC.  Bringing an urgently needed dose of fresh, vibrant soul to the hungry masses, it is their mission to keep it real, keep it movin and to keep you groovin’!

This is live electronic music done right. This is Kashoo.
